da 888: As reported by the Daily Mail, Everton are showing interest in Lille defender Adama Soumaoro ahead of the January transfer window.
What’s the story?
da betobet: Sam Allardyce has brought a new pragmatic and steely determination to his Everton side but they are still showing weakness in the centre-back areas with summer signing Michael Keane losing form and the Toffees not exactly having a multitude of options to replace him.
Building a stronger defensive line would allow Allardyce to play more expansive football going forward and improve Everton’s fortunes heading into 2018.
One defender he is reported to be interested in is Lille star Adama Soumaoro.
That’s according to the Daily Mail, who say that Everton have been watching the 25-year-old who is rated as worth around £20m.
Is he the answer?
Soumaoro certainly appears to have plenty of potential, having learned his trade in Ligue 1 and is currently performing well after a prolonged spell on the sidelines with an achilles problem.
In his six league outings this term, according to Squawka, the centre-back has won seven of the nine aerial duels he has faced, as well as making 19 clearances, eight interceptions and eight blocks.
He has also shown how comfortable he is in possession by successfully completing both of the dribbles he has attempted, and he has a hugely impressive passing accuracy of 93%.
The fact he can play a bit with the ball at his feet, alongside his defensive qualities, makes him an attractive proposition to Premier League clubs like Everton, with the modern game often played at pace from defence into midfield against high pressing opposition.
Still just 25, he has plenty of time to adapt and improve and the reported £20m fee it would take to bring the player to Merseyside is more than within Everton’s reach, meaning this is a move that could work out very well for all parties.
