da betcris: Trent Alexander-Arnold has been named on the 40-man shortlist for the 2018 Golden Boy award after a stellar season 2017/18 season for Liverpool, and the club’s fans have taken to Twitter to congratulate the young talent on his nomination.
The award is based on the performances by the continent’s best young players under the age of 21 for the previous calendar year and has been presented by Italian newspaper Tuttosport since 2003.
The 19-year-old will however face stern competition for the award with World Cup winner Kylian Mbappe, Roma’s Justin Kluvert, Borussia Dortmund’s Christian Pulisic and Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior just some of the worthy contenders.
Mbappe, who won the award last year, will be seen as the favourite to win it again after the successful year he has had at PSG and with France at the summer’s World Cup.
But Alexander-Arnold could be a surprise contender after being part of Jurgen Klopp’s side that made it all the way to Kiev for the Champions League final. Despite his young age, the right-back adjusted himself quite quickly as a regular first-team player with some spectacular performances in the Premier League and in Europe.
Here are some of Twitter reactions by Liverpool fans:
