da winzada777: Aston Villa are a Championship side whom so much is expected from as the season continues to grow.
da bet7: Roberto Di Matteo’s side have been extremely slow out of the gate as we’ve gotten underway and there is genuine thought both on the Villa Park terraces and by neutrals that it’s not going to be as easy as first thought.
Along with Newcastle, Villa have been huge spenders in England this summer, investing over £55million as they look to build a squad capable of bouncing straight back into the top flight. There is genuine quality in there but we’ve seen money be the downfall of many clubs in the past.
It’s for that reason we’re growing increasingly certain that things won’t always go Villa’s way as the campaign continues.
So with that in mind, here are three reasons why Aston Villa will struggle in the Championship this season…
Money isn’t always the answer
As Aston Villa know perhaps more than anyone else, money isn’t always the answer. With Tim Sherwood then at the helm, he wasted no time in spending over £53million as the club looked to have a strong season in the Premier League.
But as we know now, that spending was completely fruitless and it was some of these signings that seriously contributed to the downfall of the club. The likes of Adama Traore, Jordan Veretout, Scott Sinclair and Joleon Lescott all came in and then quickly enough, all left this summer.
Investing money is one thing, but it’s tough to build success on a team full of new additions.
The Championship is a different kettle of fish
Whilst Roberto Di Matteo has been pretty insistent on bringing players of “Championship quality”, there are still figures in this Aston Villa side that might not have competed at this level before.
Ask the likes of Fulham, Leeds United and Wolves how tough it is to get promoted again. These teams are all relatively recent Premier League teams that have struggled to escape from the Championship for the past couple of years now.
They have undoubted quality, skill and pace in that side, but can they do it on a cold Tuesday night at Brentford? These are the games that will provide the sternest tests.
Villa fans expect promotion
As we saw when Villa played Forest last week, their fans are still expecting success to come immediately in this division.
Whether that is in the form of lots of goals, generally good performances or winning the league, I’m not sure.
There will be tougher tests to come but there are plenty of supporters that are expecting a quick turnaround when, in fact, these players have been playing together for a matter of weeks.
To have high expectations is good, but not so astronomical that the players are turned on from the get-go.
